Upcoming Events:

  • Spring meeting of the Minnesota Area Association of Physics Teachers (MAAPT) on April 26, 2008 at Macalester College

  • Summer 2008 meeting of the American Association of Physics Teachers: July 19-23 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Professional Documents:

Education:

  • B.S. 2004, Physics & Physics Education, North Dakota State University

  • M.S. 2006, Physics, University of Minnesota:  "Development of a Fiber Continuity and Light Calibration Device  for NOvA"    Plan B paper    presentation

  • I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Physics with a subfield of Physics Education Research. The degree combines core coursework and preliminary exams in Physics with advanced coursework in Science Education (education research methods, statistics for social sciences, educational psychology, etc.)

Research:

  • My Ph.D. dissertation topic is problem solving assessment, and my thesis adviser is Dr. Ken Heller. I am revising a problem solving scoring rubric to evaluate written solutions to physics problems and obtaining evidence for reliability and validity.

  • For more information and to download a copy of the rubric, visit the Research page.

  • Other research interests of mine include the instruction of physics teaching assistants, lab curriculum development, cooperative group problem solving, and gender issues in STEM disciplines.
