Boundary Waters Canoe Area, Superior National Forest, Minnesota

Amanda and Pete took a vacation to get away from the city, school, and work. Having never been to the Boundary Waters and not really knowing how to canoe, we thought we would do the novice version the conoeing and hiking, that is, to camp just on the border of the BWCA and take day trips in. We camped at the Sawbill Lake Campground. From there we could canoe into the BWCA in matter of minutes. Plus, since we don't own a canoe, we could rent from the Sawbill outfitters located just a short walk outside of the campground on a day by day basis. The campground was beautiful and I think we had the best spot, overlooking the lake, heavily wooded, and near the water and toilets.

Some interest marsh flowers we found on several occasions through the BWCA streams and lakes.

A couple nice pics of Sawbill Lake.

For one of the day trips we went to Eagle Mountain, Minnesota's highest point. I very leisurely hike of about 2-3 miles and then some awesome views overlooking Superior National Forest.
