PIRA Classification: 5H50.60
Description: A billiard ball, resting on an air bearing, has a
magnet imbedded in its center.
The direction of the magnetic moment of the ball is indicated by a small
black stem. An adjustable mass can be added to change the gravitational
torque on the ball. The current in Helmholtz coils is increased until the
magnetic and gravitational torques are balanced. One can also use the
ball as a physical pendulum. Changing the current in the coils will
change the period of the pendulum.
