The research in our lab primarily focuses on the development and implementation of fluorescence techniques for studying biological systems. Mostly we use two-photon excitation in order to observe fluorescent molecules moving through a region on the order of a femtoliter. Researchers in our lab develop both experimental techniques as well as analytical tools. The techniques in our lab are meant to quantify physical parameter of single biological molecules. |

The main lab consists of a tuneable Titanium:Saphire laser used for two-photon excitation of the fluorescent molecules. The beam from this laser is split and aimed into two different microscopes. Each microscope is able to be used for the basic fluorescence spectroscopy measurements. The two microscopes have become quite different in many respects allowing for independent modifations making development of different techniques to occur in parralel |
